Athletes First: The Promotion of Safe Sport in Canada

Centre for Sport Capacity
Online Conference

The harassment and abuse of athletes, and the lack of administrative action in these instances, has been highlighted in recent cases in the media and the courts. The long term negative ramifications for athletes and sport at all levels is a significant issue that needs discussion, discourse, and action. That’s where we come in. The Centre for Sport Capacity’s 2021 Forum, Athletes First: The Promotion of Safe Sport in Canada will have an athlete-centred focus.

Topics of the day will include: governance and policy development, coaching education, athlete advocacy, and legal ramifications of harassment and abuse in sport.

Important Registration Information: Please make sure that all emails provided (especially if purchasing multiple tickets) are accurate as they are required to give you online event platform (Microsoft Teams) access. You will have to connect to the platform in advance to gain access (an email with instructions will be sent).

Panel On-Demand Access
: Please note that your registration includes access to the Panel videos/discussion after the event. This allows you to re-watch if you’d like, or if you miss any of the panels. Breakout rooms will NOT be recorded.

Breakout groups: The 2021 Safe Sport Forum will offer four breakout room sessions: Athletes’ Voices, Governance and “System Re-engineering,” Legal Implications, and Coach Education. There will be limited breakout spaces available when you purchase your ticket as we find it important to keep group sizes small in order to encourage discussion. For those who register after spots have been filled, you will be placed on a waiting list.

Format: Those who choose to participate in breakout room discussions will be kept in the same group throughout the duration of the three-day Safe Sport Forum. We hope that by doing this, breakout rooms will have a comfortable environment for attendees to share their experiences and thoughts on the topic of Safe Sport.
